Davis is a city of 68,000 located in northern California close to Sacramento, a metropolitan region of two million people. San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and the Napa and Sonoma valleys are all within two hours drive. Davis has managed to preserve its old downtown which has many restaurants, mostly for casual dining, and is next to the university campus.
Visitors may fly in to Sacramento Airport (20 miles away), San Francisco International Airport (90 miles away) or Oakland International Airport (75 miles away). Davis Airporter runs shuttles to Davis from Sacramento and San Francisco Airports. Taxis, services such as Lyft and Uber, and public transport are also available.
In late June the typical weather is pleasant mornings, warm to hot afternoons, and pleasant evenings, with average minimum temperature of 55˚F (13˚C) and average maximum temperature of 91˚F (33˚C). Humidity is low and on average there is one day of rain in June and zero days in July.
The conference is on the campus of The University of California - Davis, a comprehensive university with 37,000 students that is part of the 10-campus University of California system. The conference is hosted by the Department of Economics whose forty faculty support a Ph.D. program with ninety students and an undergraduate B.A. program with 1,600 majors.
